Software Testing Life Cycle
It has now been accepted that Software Testing is an integral part of any project. Software Testing thus also has a proper life cycle. In the best of worlds the STLC parallels the Software Development Life Cycle, coordinating activities.
Software Testing Life Cycle is divided into following Phases:
- Proposal/Contract.
- Testing Requirements Specification (TRS) Design.
- Testing.
- Inspection and Release.
- Client Acceptance
The main tasks performed duringeach phase are:
Project Initiation
It is the first phase of Software Testing Life Cycle(STLC). It mailnle involves the starting formalities when a project comes to an organiztion. The tasks include
- Analyze scope of project, Prepare Contract, Review of Contract, Release.
- Identify Test Requirements and risk assessment.
- Identify Resources.
- Project Plan and test strategy.
Testing Requirements Specification (TRS)
- Product requirements document.
- Identify acceptance criteria.
- Document product Definition, Testing Strategies.
- Define problem reporting procedures.
Plan Test
Here, the planing of testing process is done.
- Generate Test plans.
- Schedule the testing process.
Design Test
- Setup test environment.
- High level test plan.
- Design Test Cases, define expected results.
- Decide if any set of test cases to be automated.
- Prepare Traceability matrix.
Execute Test Activities(Testing)
In this phase, test execution is the main task.
- Testing – Initial test cycles, bug fixes and re-testing.
- Final Testing and Implementation.
- Setup database to track components of the automated testing system, i.e. reusable modules.
- Verify results.
- Defect management.
Inspection and Release
After the execution has been completed and all defects have been retested and closed, the whole testing process is reviewed again.
- Evaluate Testing activities
- Final Review of Testing.
- Metrics to measure improvement
Sing Off/Project Closure
It is the last phase of STLC. The project is sent for User acceptance and if everthing goes fine, the Software Testing project is signed off..
- Client Acceptance.
- Replication of Product Product Delivery Records Submission Client Sign-off .
